Salicylic acid is a kind of powder, tech.grade in pale pink to white green appearance, while higher grade is white powder. 
Odorless,sweet first and then hot, no chemical change in the air. Atmospherically subimation temperature over 76°C
Easily to decarboxylate and change into=and carbon dioxide when heated atmospherically, and its aqueous 
solution appears acid reaction, become purple with FeCl3, slightly dissolves in water but dissolves in boiling water easily. 
Soluble in ethanol or ether and slightly soluble in Chloroform.
