Description
D-Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol produced by reduction of glucose. The compound is a polyol found in fruits such 
as apples, prunes, peaches, and pears. Although produced for varying uses synthetically the D-Sorbitol has 
been observed to be produced by the bacterium Zymomonas mobilis from glucose with the use of glucose-fructose 
oxidoreductase. Metabolism of D-Sorbitol has been found to generate superoxide anion radicals in mitochondria.
