Propylene carbonate CAS 108-32-7 (often abbreviated PC) is an organic compound with the formula CH3C2H3O2CO. It is a carbonate ester derived from propylene glycol. This colorless and odorless liquid is useful as a polar, aprotic solvent. Propylene carbonate is chiral but is used exclusively as the racemic mixture. It is soluble in water and carbon tetrachloride, and ethyl ether, chloroform, acetone, benzene and other immiscible. It is a good solvent polarity. Melting point is -48.8°C.

Application
Propylene Carbonate is a high quality solvent for de-gassing purposes.It is used in petroleum processing,oil field and decarbonation of ammonium. It is also used as synthetic fiber finishing agent and color fixer for textile industry.It is also used as polymer solvent in polymer industry.
- Electronic Industry: Propylene Carbonate can be used as good dielectric in high energy cells and condensers.
- Chemical Industry: Propylene Carbonate can be used as the main material to compound Dimethyl Carbonate, and widely used in the removal of CO2 and H2S from natural gas, petroleum cracking gas.
- It can also be used in such field as plasticizer, textile solvent and olefin fiber.
